Flatcoats are without compare. This is the second time this month my dogs have come to the rescue. Firstly Thorn was a blood donor at our local vets. They needed a big healthy dog with lots of blood, criteria he fits well at the moment. He gave 500ml for a dog having a op for cancer who would not stop bleeding. I do not know the final outcome but shortterm he stepped into the breach.
Secondly this weekend Rowan is giving her all. She is having a false pregnancy and as usual has started making milk. On saturday morning I read on Champdogs website that a bitch had just died having a caesarian op leaving ten pups. The owner lived only just over an hours drive from us so I offered our services as a foster mum. Rowan has had one litter before and raised 10 pups of her own and was a lovely mum. The lady came straight from the vets with the pups and after the intial shock and wariness Rowan allowed one then all of them to feed and it was all systems go. The first 2 days have been very labour intensive of course..no sleep for the human! but now the pups have started to gain weight and Rowan is making more milk, so although its early days we are all hopeful they will all survive. The pups are not flatcoats they are Cardigan Corgis. Maybe they will grow up thinking they are elegant gundogs!
